The WIP BB is kind of a catastrophe. Well, no. But. Urgh. So much frustration.
I've posted the art on time though! o/
However, my fic is back in shambles \o/ I thought I had finished and was reserving the editing two weeks before my posting date (which was two days ago).

But then, I finish the first chapter I wrote for the WIP BB and realized the last scene is meh at best and comes off as unconnected to the previous scene. So, I completely rewrite it, and it's so much better and I'm excited about it. And then, I remember that the next chapter is a direct continuation of this last scene (!!!)

And then I realize that the new plot I've devised for the second chapter was written in parts in chapter 3, so I need to swap plots of chapter 2 and 3 but it means so much rewriting. I can still keep some scenes I've written already but they would need big rewrites.

On one hand, I'm happy I caught the glaring plothole before publishing. On the other hand, I just want to bang my head on the wall.

Good news is: I could delay my posting date to late August, which should leave me enough time to work on that, work on my other exchanges/bingos/challenges *and* having my parents during the holidays for a week.

In other news: I'm currently writing the pinch hit for Rare Male Slash Exchange exchange, and it's going pretty well. At least, this is quite low pressure. For now.

Honestly, yes, I'm really happy I found it. I would've felt bad if I noticed it after. This fic became more important than I thought, so I write it the best I can.

I'm trying to make myself write my AUex assignment to get it out of the way - and then go back to the Alphas fic series I've been writing that has taken over my brain. Realized I wrote over 50k in the past year for Alphas, so that's been very productive for me! (Considering my total wordcount is only 158k total…)

And of course, keeping up with real life commitments and whatnot. Writing is in bits and pieces here and there, but it's happening, at least. :)

158k is small compared to the totals on some people's profiles (especially since some of that includes fics I wrote as far back as 2005), but it took me awhile to get really into writing on a more-or-less regular basis - or just to consider doing any exchange other than Yuletide. 50k of one fandom in one year, otoh, is pretty fantastic for me - though half of that is a single fic that wouldn't leave me alone till I wrote it in 3 weeks. Way too much writing at one time - when I finished I promised myself I'd take it slower in the future! :) The other 25k from last year was just exchanges, and I did too many of those too. This year's much more reasonable - Chocolate Box, Every Woman, a treat for multifandomdrabble, AUex… I'd do Genex but it doesn't seem to be happening. And of course Yuletide in the fall. :D

I guess for me, the thing with word counts is that it is so very individual that I don't think it's remotely fair to compare with anyone else. That's why I get angry, sometimes, with communities that are just for big word counts. I mean, some people thrive on them but when I tried, sure, I was banging out a lot of words, but I wasn't really working on the stories I wanted to, because those didn't necessarily have enough words in them for the number of words I needed to bang out... (I don't know if that makes sense.)

But basically, if it's a great number for you, then I'm happy for you. ^_^

(I always want to do all the exchanges and then realize that would literally be all I'd be doing!)

Yeah, word counts really vary, that's for sure. I can't go with just "banging out words" even if I wanted to because I really can't write if I get stuck on details or characterization or whatnot, and that's why pretty much all of my WIPs are WIPs and not completed fics by now. Mostly they need cheerleading through characters and plots, though some need very specific detail help. Last year's TreatYoSelf was very helpful with getting one of them done, because my brain had just stalled with what needed to come next, and someone else going "hmm, try this" was just what I needed. But then of course I managed to start at least one more this year that will probably never be finished, lol. Some of those WIPs have more words in them than 95% of my posted fics, so if you actually factored my WIP wordcount into it all, the total number of words would be a bit higher. From my count, there's another 50k or nearly so of WIPs on my hdd (the largest one is something like 15k, and it's only the first day of the story - a post-X2 fic for X-Men). Someday I would like to finish them, but the chances of finding a cheerleading beta who knows the fandoms in question is slim. Ah well, at least Alphas is on my brain and that I've got a great cheerleader for, so that's what I spend my time writing. And I'm happy with my wordcount because for me that's a lot. And I hope that it's quality words (there's always that nagging bit of self-doubt), so quality beats quantity, right?

Hee, yeah, I tried that last year. 10 exchanges, plus a challenge or two. (And that wasn't all the exchanges there were, just the ones I could participate in.) It was too much. And then with the 25k fic and other Alphas fics on top of that… yeah, I wrote 75k last year, but I also burned out on a fandom, and spent too much time just writing to other people's prompts. This year it's been a lot more fun, to write a few things for other people but still have time to work on the ideas that have been in my mind.

I took most of last week off because parents were in town. Now I'm working on continuing my worldbuilding series for the novel, and turning ideas around in my head for how to edit it.

I have finished the first poem in the raid set I'm currently working on. Second poem is drafted and I'm polishing it tonight. There is at least one more that happens on the day of the raid, that I'd like to write, but don't know if I'll have time for.

Little bits, every day. I'm still current on 31 Days, have been doing little drabbles here and there, and ended up writing fourteen drabbles for MultiFandomDrabble, most of which were in the last hours before reveals because it was a lot of fun~~

What I want to do now is figure out how to work on all the longer stuff while still doing enough little things that I don't feel burned out from working on longer stuff. And all the things on this list. Oi, it is a busy summer. But I can do it~ \o/

Wow, that's a lot of drabbles! I have a hard time finding any requests I can write in exchanges, so I set myself a goal of just finding one drabble I can treat someone with each year. This year's was rather different from my usual sort of fandom, but I think I pulled it off, so I count it a success. But yeah, they are fun to write, aren't they? :D

Sounds like a lot of little writing spurts here and there, mixed with other stuff to avoid burnout. :)

I sort of got into a groove and found a bunch of people asking for one of my current main fandoms, so it helped. It was definitely a lot of fun.

I can totally sit down and write a novel straight through - NaNo over the years taught me that, but writing little bits of other things is definitely keeping me calmer and feeling more creative. So little steps to get to the place I aspire to (which is basically 'not wasting so much time doing nothing or overthinking'!)
