No special activities for the week, just a check-in~ Kick back and relax~

This is a check-in post! You do not have to check in if you don't want to and there are no requirements for what you need to check in with. This is your space, so have at!

Feel free to talk about success, frustration, current projects, nagging projects, exciting projects, and everything else going on.

If you have a deadline, you can do it! If you need a deadline, they're available.

It took me longer to make my bunny list this year as I decided to make a trello board instead of a regular posted list. I like the way it looks, but I haven't put everything on it yet. This is it so far.

I'm doing pretty well, averaging about 1k a day. I'm skipping from one project to the next though, so it's slow progress on things.

That board looks so nice and neat, and 1k a day is really impressive!

I've been doing RP PSLs with a friend, which is a fun way to get words out!

Individual projects are frustrating right now, though. I'll start one of the ideas on my list (as opposed to a WIP) and get some good momentum going, but then life happens and I have to stop. After that, it's shifted to the WIP section and then it's pulling teeth to get myself to add even just a sentence to it at any point.

The past week and a half, I've written more fanfic than I have in months, possibly years. Probably years. Part of it is a fandom event I was doing on Tumblr, but then I went and wrote a whole series of other things at the same time. IDK, but I'm going through something and I think I like it.

Last week was rubbish: hardly got anything done on the bingo craft project and didn't do any writing/typing fic.

No craft work this week so far. I have started typing up a fic finally and grimacing at my silted dialogue. I've done some back tagging on a comm which I haven't done for a while because my internet has been so slow and it's been a struggle to do anything except stare at a page not loading page but it's back to it's usual speed this week so I feel I've got back on track there.

Despite RL being a constant thorn in my ass, I managed a thousand more words of Ronan. I amused myself by making the protagonist try and fail miserably to have sex in a hammock.

And I have gotten much-needed reading in (which will turn into much more once I get new glasses. Oy vey.)

This made me laugh! And also, with lots of Black Sails fic around, I wonder this doesn't come up more...

I sat down and made out a list of stories I definitely intend on finishing, and in the order that I wanted to finish them in.

The list lasted two days, which was when I jumped ahead to the fic third on the list.

But hey, I still intend on finishing them all! Just not in the order I'd originally planned.

From: [personal profile] dialecticdreamer
Lists and I are enemies. Too many colors of ink, too many changes of topic, and I start to feel my brain itch. A "list" of unfinished or wanted fics was definitely NOT going to work.

Instead, I put each unfinished story on an index card. (Save about an inch on the right short edge for categorizing.) To do items needed for the blog go on blue slips of paper the same size.

This week, I cracked into my second pack of one hundred index cards for the list. I've found ONE duplicated story idea.

I also wrote, as of bedtime last night, 57,195 words.

So far, I'm averaging two cards into the finished stack for every five new cards that I add.

The index box is a whopping three weeks old, barely, but it's WORKING.

I'm having trouble with strong endings, which I need, desperately to practice, and I'm having trouble alternating between two projects in the same day. I URGENTLY need to get a handle on that problem, because my goal for this year is to learn how to set things up to publish on Amazon.

I have three goals for this year:
- Write half a million words. (The GetYourWordsOut group is a tremendous help for that!)
- Clean up the blog elements and update the indexes to fiction which have gotten lost in the sea of medical emergencies from last year and the year before. This means learning more HTML and making fewer mistakes.
- PUBLISH on Amazon. I'm not ready to talk about the specific project, but one key problem is that I have to ALSO wrangle finishing it while working on shorter stories for the blog.

Thanks for the link to Trello, earlier. That's something I need to look into very, very closely!

Both submissions + bio text/pic sent in to the YST anniversary zine, booyah ~~

Which means now I can get down to brass tacks for my Supergo prompts. X3 And randomly wandered over to [community profile] origfic_bingo to ask for a card for no reason I can discern, lol; in hindright I'm not sure my timing for commenting was right, though. *snrk*

Meanwhile, finally trying to ink that damn map + assembling more notes/materials for that short story/novella collection I'm contemplating doing ...

I’ve been able to cross two things off my to-write list this week: a fest fic and a fic for a new fandom. Neither of them are particularly long and neither are posted, but I’m counting them as progress because they are finished.

I’ve also managed a bit of non-fandom writing, which needs to be transformed into a lot of non-fandom writing in the next few weeks, but still. Progress.

Vaguely annoyed at one of my two WIPs, because I discovered that I had the layout of one of my major settings wrong, and now I have to rewrite a large chunk of it because I need to reposition the characters. (Basically, I lost a bedroom and a corridor in a small residence, which means that all of the action has to be crammed into about half of the space.) This is one of those things that probably only a handful of readers would care about, but it matters to me...and yet I'm sulking about it. ^^;;

Hoping to post it to AO3 by the weekend.

I have an idea for one of my monthlygo prompts. Not sure how many I will have done before the end of the month but that’s for next week’s checkin :)

I have accomplished… precisely nothing fandom-related this past week (unless you count replying to comments on my Chocolate Box fics and commenting on the lovely gift I got). Life. It has eaten all of my free time. /o\

And when I do go to work on fic, I don't know what to start with. The Alphas fic series that's relatively easy but has about two readers total? (And which is going to get more complicated because I have to figure out certain implications of some of the aspects of the apocalypse that's a central part of the plot.) The SV WIP which is very awesome and which would probably get a decent number of readers when/if finished, but which has wayyyy too far to go? (I've only got about 10k so far and it's not the easiest thing to plot out.) The X-Men WIP which needs major plotting but would be so much fun if I could just figure out where it's going? (And find someone willing to help plot it all.) Some other idea that came to mind? (I had the most bizarre crossover come to mind the other day - and I think I could make it work - but I have so many WIPs already and this would just join the lot of them and probably never get finished…) Decisions are the worst thing.

*realizes probably none of the above, because life*

If you need a deadline, they're available.

*waves* I'm not sure how this works, but. When I set deadlines for myself I tend not to honour them, so if somebody else set it for me I might stand a chance? IDK.

I could use two
- one for a 6000 word fanfic I've barely started but is IMPORTANT
- one to complete the final 2 chapters of a WIP, dragging on since 2016, that I really want to finish before April. I've no idea how many words that will take though.

So, I haven't done a lot (I reorganized my list and added one fanfic that's a WIP). However, I finally started to reread and edit a chapter from a translation of a fanfic (that I started in 2010... I think).

I've already published 37 chapters (the first 30 or so were done in 2010-2012. For the others, the publication was more spotty. Erm.)

I had finished translating the last 7 chapters last year (around summer) and I just needed to edit and publish them. Which I didn't do.

Since I set myself a deadline for the 28th of this month, I thought I'd actually give it a try.

Right now, I have 3 chapters left.

As soon as I'm done with this, I'll start the manips for the bang and/or write the fics for the bingo (I have ideas! And motivation!)

I tried and failed to paint an Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass illustration that I specifically planned to be super simple and non-threatening. And then I almost accidentally painted a Mansfield Park fanart. *bewildered shrug* At least I did something, I guess!

Also, anyone has a piece of advice about the etiquette of "fanfic fanart"? The above painting was inspired by a wonderful fanfic, but I don't know if/how to mention it. Especially since it's just a character portrait and therefore very much just in my head.

I decided to link the fic, because more links the better right? But maybe it's weird... And should I notify the author? I know a lot of fic authors enjoy fanart, but it feels kind of shameless to me...

That's a gorgeous portrait! Wow!

Also, anyone has a piece of advice about the etiquette of "fanfic fanart"?

I'd drop a comment to the fic to say that it inspired art - if I were the author, I'd be chuffed to find out. It's not shameless, or at least, it doesn't seem that way to me at all.

You know when you decide you're going to tidy up the cupboard with all the tupperware in it, so you pull it all out and clean the shelves and you're all ready to put it back in neat tidy rows, then you turn and look at the havoc of plastic containers on the floor so you just give up, leave the room and lock the door and never go in there again?

I have done that with my fic, and I don't know where to start with it.
