No special activities for the week, just a check-in~ Kick back and relax~
This is a check-in post! You do not have to check in if you don't want to and there are no requirements for what you need to check in with. This is your space, so have at!
Feel free to talk about success, frustration, current projects, nagging projects, exciting projects, and everything else going on.
If you have a deadline, you can do it! If you need a deadline, they're available.

Date: 2018-02-21 01:39 pm (UTC)I'm doing pretty well, averaging about 1k a day. I'm skipping from one project to the next though, so it's slow progress on things.

And still working on moving over old stuff from my personal archive to AO3, which has been... both fun and a bit overwhelming at times.
I've also been working on getting notes and whatnot from scraps of paper all logged into one notebook, but that's also slow-going. (And then I find more.)

Date: 2018-02-21 02:08 pm (UTC)Individual projects are frustrating right now, though. I'll start one of the ideas on my list (as opposed to a WIP) and get some good momentum going, but then life happens and I have to stop. After that, it's shifted to the WIP section and then it's pulling teeth to get myself to add even just a sentence to it at any point.

Date: 2018-02-21 03:24 pm (UTC)No craft work this week so far. I have started typing up a fic finally and grimacing at my silted dialogue. I've done some back tagging on a comm which I haven't done for a while because my internet has been so slow and it's been a struggle to do anything except stare at a page not loading page but it's back to it's usual speed this week so I feel I've got back on track there.

Date: 2018-02-21 04:23 pm (UTC)I'll finish a piece, plan to do more, and then not get anything done for a week, it seems C':
I do have two pieces in mind though, and I hope to get at least one done before March begins!

Date: 2018-02-21 06:11 pm (UTC)The list lasted two days, which was when I jumped ahead to the fic third on the list.
But hey, I still intend on finishing them all! Just not in the order I'd originally planned.

Date: 2018-02-21 06:29 pm (UTC)Instead, I put each unfinished story on an index card. (Save about an inch on the right short edge for categorizing.) To do items needed for the blog go on blue slips of paper the same size.
This week, I cracked into my second pack of one hundred index cards for the list. I've found ONE duplicated story idea.
I also wrote, as of bedtime last night, 57,195 words.
So far, I'm averaging two cards into the finished stack for every five new cards that I add.
The index box is a whopping three weeks old, barely, but it's WORKING.
I'm having trouble with strong endings, which I need, desperately to practice, and I'm having trouble alternating between two projects in the same day. I URGENTLY need to get a handle on that problem, because my goal for this year is to learn how to set things up to publish on Amazon.
I have three goals for this year:
- Write half a million words. (The GetYourWordsOut group is a tremendous help for that!)
- Clean up the blog elements and update the indexes to fiction which have gotten lost in the sea of medical emergencies from last year and the year before. This means learning more HTML and making fewer mistakes.
- PUBLISH on Amazon. I'm not ready to talk about the specific project, but one key problem is that I have to ALSO wrangle finishing it while working on shorter stories for the blog.
Thanks for the link to Trello, earlier. That's something I need to look into very, very closely!

Date: 2018-02-21 07:01 pm (UTC)I’ve also managed a bit of non-fandom writing, which needs to be transformed into a lot of non-fandom writing in the next few weeks, but still. Progress.

I have an idea for one of my monthlygo prompts. Not sure how many I will have done before the end of the month but that’s for next week’s checkin :)

Date: 2018-02-22 06:11 am (UTC)And when I do go to work on fic, I don't know what to start with. The Alphas fic series that's relatively easy but has about two readers total? (And which is going to get more complicated because I have to figure out certain implications of some of the aspects of the apocalypse that's a central part of the plot.) The SV WIP which is very awesome and which would probably get a decent number of readers when/if finished, but which has wayyyy too far to go? (I've only got about 10k so far and it's not the easiest thing to plot out.) The X-Men WIP which needs major plotting but would be so much fun if I could just figure out where it's going? (And find someone willing to help plot it all.) Some other idea that came to mind? (I had the most bizarre crossover come to mind the other day - and I think I could make it work - but I have so many WIPs already and this would just join the lot of them and probably never get finished…) Decisions are the worst thing.
*realizes probably none of the above, because life*

Date: 2018-02-22 01:44 pm (UTC)If you aren't sure what to work on, let random.org or a coin flip or something decide for you. If your immediate thought is 'naaah', work on another option.

Date: 2018-02-22 09:48 am (UTC)*waves* I'm not sure how this works, but. When I set deadlines for myself I tend not to honour them, so if somebody else set it for me I might stand a chance? IDK.
I could use two
- one for a 6000 word fanfic I've barely started but is IMPORTANT
- one to complete the final 2 chapters of a WIP, dragging on since 2016, that I really want to finish before April. I've no idea how many words that will take though.
no subject
Date: 2018-02-22 01:20 pm (UTC)Which of the two is more important and how fast do you tend to write?
If you want to have the one done before April, then your deadline for it is March 24th. The other one can be either before or after, depending on the above question.

Date: 2018-02-22 03:13 pm (UTC)I've already published 37 chapters (the first 30 or so were done in 2010-2012. For the others, the publication was more spotty. Erm.)
I had finished translating the last 7 chapters last year (around summer) and I just needed to edit and publish them. Which I didn't do.
Since I set myself a deadline for the 28th of this month, I thought I'd actually give it a try.
Right now, I have 3 chapters left.
As soon as I'm done with this, I'll start the manips for the bang and/or write the fics for the bingo (I have ideas! And motivation!)

Date: 2018-02-22 07:39 pm (UTC)Also, anyone has a piece of advice about the etiquette of "fanfic fanart"? The above painting was inspired by a wonderful fanfic, but I don't know if/how to mention it. Especially since it's just a character portrait and therefore very much just in my head.
I decided to link the fic, because more links the better right? But maybe it's weird... And should I notify the author? I know a lot of fic authors enjoy fanart, but it feels kind of shameless to me...

Date: 2018-02-23 03:55 am (UTC)Also, anyone has a piece of advice about the etiquette of "fanfic fanart"?
I'd drop a comment to the fic to say that it inspired art - if I were the author, I'd be chuffed to find out. It's not shameless, or at least, it doesn't seem that way to me at all.

Date: 2018-02-24 05:06 am (UTC)Keep looking at your story as you go so you can see how nice it looks with all the lids in place. And if, whoops, you are me and mismatched lids even on the second try, that is okay too and you can fix it.
You got this~
