So, that list you made last week? Go ahead and grab it/load it/bring it up in another window.

If it's making you want to run screaming in terror, eschew the interwebs and worldly possessions and become a monk in the potato fields of Idaho, I completely understand. If it's actually not that bad, well-organized and manageable, well, that's fine too. I'm a little envious, really, for those of you falling into the latter category.

However... don't run screaming. Because it's not a scary list of things you have to do.

It's an amazing list of awesome stories you are going to write/videos you are going to make/art you are going to art/crafts you are going to craft/etc.

Look at all the cool stuff you have planned!

If you have a list so astounding and cool that you have no idea where to start (or perhaps you want to work on all the things), take a couple of minutes and look it over.

Some of you have mentioned exchanges/fests/things-with-deadlines. While there may be something far more sparkly attempting to get your attention, stick with your deadline-shiny! I know it's hard, but I also know you can do it!

If you don't have any deadlines and have time to work on something, work on the first thing that jumps out at you. While you work on it, the rest of the list doesn't exist. You're not neglecting all those other things; they are perfectly content to wait.


This is also a weekly check-in! You do not have to check in, of course, but if you would like to comment on the last week, feel free! If you want to introduce yourself and weren't sure you wanted to do it in an individual post, feel free to use the comments. My word-count log for the past few weeks* suggests that I am currently actively working on 4 different projects from the list. Two are short enough/close enough to done that I could imagine finishing them if I buckled down and concentrated, the other two are longstanding mega-long projects.

I've recently become more underemployed than I was, which in theory means I have lots and lots of writing time for the next few weeks, and in practice doesn't actually seem to be leading to my dream of productive writing days... *sigh*



*Still managing to write 100+ words every day, since beginning of November; now at 2 days where I didn't quite make 100 but still made > 0. Hooray!

I have my first/primary/something submission for yon fanzine finished (well, until the editor decides to pick things apart, lol) and a good start on the second one.

My computer crashed last week so I had to get a new one. I was transferring stuff over from my external hard drive, and found a bunch of things I started but never finished, stuff I don't even remember! I'm going through it, putting it on my list to either finish or overhaul or fold into current stuff, and it's been an adventure. One of the stories was started in 2012...

(I found some notes from, idk, middle or high school the other day. A few of the stories I remember, but a couple were just... nope, no clue what this was, huh. But it was a fun find!)

Mine does too, sometimes. But remember, you can do one thing on it at a time and the rest will patiently wait. They're chill. If you aren't sure where to start, random.org will pick something for you. You can do it!

The past week, I've been working on Chocolate Box exchange stuff; my assignment and one treat are complete, and I was working on another last night that's almost done! Hoping to get at least one more in by the weekend C:

My list has changed a bit. It's... Mostly organized.

I have four pieces to start and finish before the end of February, and one piece to finish that's already started; all fics to be written for prompts I've received. I'm struggling to really "get into" those. That said, most days have found me working on some writing project.

You can do it! The ones you're struggling with, just try writing a line or two when you can. You don't have to keep the line later, but it might be the jumping off point you need?

I finished two things on the list but one was short and the other was quite easy to do. Managed to get along further on the craft project than expected and then I decided it's not an area of craft for me which is making it hard for me to keep going on it. Did some more writing on a fic just need a proper finish now. Had a look through my chocolate box fic and fixed a few things.

What sort of crafting? Is it something you'll be able to finish more for fun? (See also: swiss-cheese scarf because knitting and I don't mix no matter how hard I try)

I finished my chocolate box exchange assignment on time and I completed a mini bingo.

Happy with my progress last week even if I did grow my list a bit with a few more challenges :)

I have added words to two WIPs and uhhhh started one more which should be fairly quickly finished. (Oh god, I always say that, and they always turn into epic monstrosities. But this is commentfic and it can't get too big in comments... can it?)

My list has metastasized. I keep finding shiny new bunnies and ignoring the things I have to work on. My primary goal rn is finishing an Olympics-themed fic before the Olympics end- it's pretty short, I should be able to knock it out in a weekend, but I just can't get going.

Just write one line! It doesn't have to be the best line or even a line you keep later. But give yourself a jumping off point and see what happens~

I've made good progress on the current WIP, then had a day of serious brain disaster and told myself I'd take a break from it for a couple of days... and I lasted a day before going back to it. I think the brain stuff is done now so I feel okay, but ugh.

And during my 'time off' I opened up another of my WIPs, the one that is #2 on my list, and was kind of daunted by it even though I was going full steam before Christmas. I'm trying not to get discouraged about it and just focus on the progress of the other one. *deep breaths*

Work on the one that wants to be worked on, the other one will keep waiting patiently. (and your hindbrain will keep chewing on it and hopefully be able to spit out the next bit when it's time)

I've mostly been, admittedly, working through old comments, comments here on bunnycomm, and elsewhere, as part of my virtual/mental cleanout. (I gave myself amnesty on comments from check-in posts ~last June, etc.) Cleaned up some of my physical space as well, around my desk, and worked on getting settled with my new computer. \o/

I've been archiving old fic on AO3 and it's been fun to get new reactions to old works and also comments from people who remember the stories from upwards of fifteen years ago! I did work on a few things, briefly, and wrote and posted 'Pumpkin Soup' for a shared Gundam AU. (Which was not off any list~ but was still words!)

I haven't tackled my list yet because I have spent two days editing things for this Sobek book. On the other hand, I added another bunny to my list, so. XD Things are going well, at least I have got all my editing notes to type up now. :D

I've transfered part of my list (all the current things I have/want to do) to Google Keep so that I can satisfyingly check it off when I'm done.

It also means that I've added another WIP because I started writing in my notebook and I was two pages in when I realized that it wasn't a follow up to any of the WIPs I have (and it doesn't even have a deadline).

And finally, I signed up to do art for one more fanfic (instead of just the one) in the Small Fandom Bang and I'm just asking myself why (because I wanted to. Urg, me.)

Sounds like you're well organized! Do you have details on what you need to do for the art yet, or is it still early in the process?

- write more parts to my Alphas series - I wrote about 300 words more on the last WIP for it? but that's it
- get further on my Smallville AU WIP (which, should I finish it, would be longer than my already-posted fic) - nope, not a bit
- sign up only for these five exchanges: Chocolate Box (already written), Everywoman, Genex, AUex, and Yuletide (though I reserve the right to make an exception should there actually be something I could write for NoFM) - so far only Chocolate Box, and assignment and treat successfully written so that's progress for now
- finish my Flood AU WIP - I re-read it, but no new words
- maybe write another fic for my Push series - yeeeeeaaah, nope
- maybe write more on my X-Men movieverse AU fic - not a bit

So… a tiny bit of progress? Life has really just been insane. /o\

I'm rereading the big fics now, trying to decide what to do next. I guess I could just dive in and write some stuff... (So radical!)

My list looks wilted and covertly megalomanic. I have captured two very old illustration bunnies, added one idea that was supposed to be a "simple, enjoyable thing to get into gears", and one spur-of-the-moment that bullied itself to the top spot instead of the previous.

I feel... pretty content about having the list grow? I started out wanting to do art but having no ideas, and now I'm slowly collecting things I'm looking forward to working on (well, mostly).
