The big problem with Edward's life on that side of the gate is that we get our first glimpse and /BLAM/, he's established, and living with that world's version of his brother.

The skip just SCREAMS for development, especially because he seems so taken by surprise to spot other doppelgangers, even two YEARS after arriving. The logic just doesn't stand.

Unless.

Who did he first meet? Did they look like anyone he knew? (I find it unlikely.) What drew him to a place and event where he met that world's Alphonse?

I've noticed that the origins of the homunculi were pretty tragic/horrible-- what if the first person to help Edward is an adult version of the child who became Envy?

Better, what if Edward never realizes, which foreshadows some of his problems later, when the official story picks up??

Just a thought.

You've found a critical storytelling gap in canon, and I know I'd want to read your ideas, even if they're very different than my own. (I'd stick Edward in neo-Finland and have the Germans and the Russians eyeing the country like starving wolves...)

Here's a gifset from the first Cap movie to jumpstart your memory. The Howling Commandos were those guys Steve lead into battle in WWII in the MCU. They also show up in the Smithsonian exhibit in CA:tWS and of course in person in the Agent Carter show. DumDum Dugan, Jim Morita, Monty Falsworth, Gabe Jones and Jacques Dernier.

You're welcome! I bright a friend with me to see the first Cap movie in theatre and the whole reason she came was to see what they did with the Howling COmmandos in the MCU, so I'm not gonna forget about them~

Suicide Squad and Batman: Arkham Knight

I have two DC fics to brainstorm. One is about Rick and Harley in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, and the other takes place after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. For the former I have the entire backstory plotted out, but I struggle to find something workable for the present in which the fic is set. For the Arkham Knight one I have the basic premise

I'm not going to elaborate here on either, because of potential spoilers (and because I'm very protective of these ideas). I have the basic outlines on Google Docs and wouldn't mind giving a gist of what I have in mind in a PM, if anyone is interested. :)

What do you do when you can't focus for whatever reason? I'm mildy medicated (and will be for another week or three) and a bit anxious about health stuff and quite unable to write. I keep having ideas, but they evaporate as soon as I look at paper or a blank screen.

It may not be possible to work around this right now-- I'm even having trouble reading/re-reading, so it's not just writing.

At any rate, suggestions for ways to get my brain moving again would be greatly appreciated.

Something that helps me work through rough patches is changing everything about what I'm working on, from the content to the word processor. Picking up something new or an old idea that never got done tends to get my brain focused on something that isn't my current situation, and switching away from familiar scenery makes it harder to zone out. A different physical location helps too, if you're able.

I hope everything sorts itself out soon, and that you're as well as you can be in the meantime.
