Let's talk about one of my (least) favorite things! Premise Bunnies!

So, I think everyone has a fairly good idea of what constitutes a plotbunny: it's that idea that chomps onto your brain and bothers you at all hours, especially when you need to be doing something else and also often while showering. It is brilliant and if you could just hook a USB cable straight into your brain, you'd be all set. It is complete and knows what it wants to do and how the finished product should look and it's great!

Sometimes, however, we get Premise Bunnies. Premise Bunnies often pretend to be plotbunnies and on first glance, they can be impossible to tell apart! Sometimes, Premise Bunnies actually turn into plotbunnies through ~magic~.

But what is a Premise Bunny?

A Premise Bunny can be a true curse. Premise Bunnies are often distinguished by their vague characteristics, such as 'Bob/Wendy have an adventure' and lack of a general narrative. A plotbunny would be closer to 'Bob/Wendy having grand adventures in space fighting giant robot pirates and helping Emperor von Alphabet reclaim his throne while slowly mending their broken relationship after the events of Episode 43'.

The worst thing that can happen with a Premise Bunny is that it turns into a WiP that goes nowhere, because there was never a plot behind it, only a premise.

Premise Bunnies are best fed time and ideas until they magically become proper plotbunnies, though often, unfortunately, many also have to be released back to the wild as well.

I sometimes think premise bunnies breed under my bed, considering how many I seem to have, but those are actually dust bunnies and I should vacuum.

I scribbled some half formed fic down this week! Need to get back to my other fics is the queue especially my S fic, but I have other non-wip things to do. But not forever!

My premise bunnies tend to end up as 'Dear Writer' prompts.

I think what you describe as premise bunnies is what my non-vid WIP suffers from. I signed up for a rock band AU at whole_new_world because the premise sounds awesome, but I have no real plot (also, I don't seem to write much anymore). It's multimedia, so I have at least one graphic completed for it.

I have an ancient rock band AU premise bunny that I kick around now and then and have no idea what to actually do with it, but it sounded awesome, so yes I understand completely. ^^;;

I have an entire notebook just filled with these premise bunnies. Only a handful might eventually turn into full fics, and I think you're right about them living under the bed, because I seem to get them at night, when I'm in bed. And then I can't get back to sleep until I write them down.

I'm getting to a really sad part of this current fic I'm working on, so it's a bit hard to write. I absolutely hate writing funerals...

I call these plot carrots, because they can attract bunnies (but don't necessarily breed like bunnies).

I have a good nine drabbles for a comm that I feel distinctly uninclined to actually post for various of reasons; I also finally have a start made on a (preliminary?) formatting for the game material I've been working on for ... ye hells, a year now.

The near two thousand words of meta for yon gentleman finally being cast out of my skull, though, that's probably a far greater accomplishment.

I really should get started on my bittybangs for Supergo, though, and the outline for Godfire.

I want more bunnies, partly because it's getting harder to think of ones in my long-standing/older fandoms, partly because so very, very few newer fandoms are flipping my dress up. It just all seems like a vast wasteland. Get off my lawn.

Have you had any success with bingo cards? If you actually try to strategize a bingo, it can give you something to work with. Or are they too vague? I think a lot of people have that problem.

I wrote 4k this week, a bumper week for me! Also, lots of it was sex scene. Also also, I wrote a lot of the sex scene while working from home during the snow day. Because if I had to be working from home on a snow day, I was damn well going to spend a significant amount of it playing candy crush and writing porn. (I did actually do 5 hours of work, sadly.)

I've also, I think, vaguely outlined the remaining chapters of this WIP. Not the details of each one, but I know pretty much which key event happens in each chapter. \o/ I feel good about this, considering I'm 25 chapters in already.

My premise bunnies tend to take the form of a song lyric that catches my ear and gives me a mood, and then I want to write a thing that fits the mood. I do write these down in my 'misc fic ideas' file. But some of them have been in there for years for lack of attention and development.

I am very familiar with these kind of premise bunnies. They're fun, but I also often don't go anywhere with them. They make me wish I was more into the vid-making or graphic-making aspect of fandom, tbh, which seem more lyric-friendly to me than writing.

Oh, dang, I'd say almost all of what I've been thinking of as Plot Bunnies are Premise Bunnies! Ha... But it does make sense!

I haven't written, but I've been excitedly gearing up for Camp NaNo next month: A (vague) plan, a modest goal, and a firm deadline, plus yet another community of writers to turn to for conversation, support, etc. It doesn't get much better for me, writing-wise!

I also totally forgot about my monthlysupergo Bitty Bang, so that's probably not happening...

I usually find a Premise Bunny, start feeding it, get it to a young, fledgeling Plot Bunny status, and then it scampers away before it can finish growing into a completed story. :\

I did go through some earlier parts of the PWKM the other day, and adopted someone else's premise bunny as a plot bunny, but I haven't started writing it yet. . . >_>; But it's nearly a full grown plot bunny in my head already!

This week I have rolled up my sleeves and dived once again into yet another attempt to Sketch Out The Scene Of Doom in the Monster WIP That Would Not Die.

I think there might actually be light at the end of the tunnel this time...

Also, still pondering whether to claim I'm doing the other WIP That Would Not Die for the Big Bang, or just do a podfic on the theory that I want to keep the other one on the front burner and not force myself to split efforts any more than I'm already tempted to.

Premise Bunnies seem to happen whenever I try to start an original fic. With fanfic,I think it helps that some of the heavy lifting has been already done.

Check-in:
Nothing posted but managed about 1500 words (split between 2 new stories). Optimistic they will both be finished by next week's check-in. Bonus they will count towards existing bingo cards/challenges on my bunny list.
Additions: None - I think I've convinced myself not to sign up for another exchange in favor of working on existing bunnies :)

I completely agree. For years I've wanted to write a mystery and have all the general characters, basis for the mystery, but... nope. No matter how hard I try, I can't even start to pull it together when I actually start typing. So it just stays 'I want to write a mystery'.

Had a lot of errands eat up chunks of the week, but I did write a ficlet and chuck in on AO3, and also worked on my re-posting project and found a bunch of ficlets on a community I'd forgotten about and didn't have them archived elsewhere, so... up on AO3 with them, too.

I want to try to participate in fic_rush this weekend. We'll see what happens!

I think last week's surge of motivation/energy is winding down :'D
I got stumped on what to do for a piece, so I've been mostly playing a game I haven't in a while, instead of working on stuff, whoops! After talking with a friend, I have an idea to work with, which I want to start sometime this weekend! Although, I think I also might be getting sick, which might put me out of commission a little while longer :'D

Kinda good news/bad news on my end, I think. :) On the one hand, I've been doing a lot fandom-wise; I wrote four short fics for a challenge thing in February, which is a lot of actual-posting output for me, and in the beginning of March I actually ran a small challenge for the first time myself. All of which was great. (And I think following this comm helped me get the motivation to do all that!)
On the other hand, that list you had us make a few posts ago... that list has only gotten longer and shows no sign of shrinking. :D

There's nothing wrong with a long list~ Mine's always kinda getting longer, too, but you're aware of it and it's relatively organized, so you can reference it. ^_^

Haven't actually gotten around to writing anything, unfortunately. Another bit of unfortunate things is adding to my list of fanvid bunnies. That I can't do right now (can't really afford a decent editing program and DVD/Blu-ray ripper). I counted over 20 of them...Stupid bunnies.
