I tried and failed to paint an Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass illustration that I specifically planned to be super simple and non-threatening. And then I almost accidentally painted a Mansfield Park fanart. *bewildered shrug* At least I did something, I guess!

Also, anyone has a piece of advice about the etiquette of "fanfic fanart"? The above painting was inspired by a wonderful fanfic, but I don't know if/how to mention it. Especially since it's just a character portrait and therefore very much just in my head.

I decided to link the fic, because more links the better right? But maybe it's weird... And should I notify the author? I know a lot of fic authors enjoy fanart, but it feels kind of shameless to me...

That's a gorgeous portrait! Wow!

I'd drop a comment to the fic to say that it inspired art - if I were the author, I'd be chuffed to find out. It's not shameless, or at least, it doesn't seem that way to me at all.
