I get kinda bad about re-using names for secondary cast. If I find a name I like that doesn't have any bad associations (or a minimum amount - it's amazing how cranky customers can ruin names forever), I get as much mileage as I can out of it, whoops.
Sounds like you have a good path laid out, and if you do choose to re-write the whole thing at some point and span the gap you've hit, you'll know how.
