(Just a reminder - this is your community, too. Feel free to use it to ask for advice, vent, commiserate, celebrate, etc.)

I'm one of those rare folks who actually gets excited to be sent to corporate HQ for ongoing training. It's always really useful stuff...

Anyway, one story told during the training immediately made me think of this community:

Once upon a time, there was a businessman who decided he was no longer going to be a businessman. He was going to be... a lumberjack! So he bought a big ol' saw and went out to cut down trees. On his very first day, he cut down seven big ol' trees with his big ol' saw. And he was very proud and got up early the next day to go cut down more trees.

Except... he only managed to cut down six big ol' trees. Perhaps, he thought, they were bigger trees than he'd realized and he'd just try harder the next day. So he went home, went to bed, got up early and worked clear through lunch but when it got dark, he'd only cut down five big ol' trees.

When he got home, he complained to his wife about the situation, and she suggested that perhaps he talk to a seasoned lumberjack about what the problem might be. So the next day, he skips the tree cutting and instead visits an old lumberjack.

"Old lumberjack dude," he says, at a loss. "The first day I had no problem cutting down seven trees, but the next day I only managed six. And then yesterday I worked from sun-up to sun-down and only cut down five."

The old lumberjack looked at him for a long moment before asking a very important question -

"Did you ever stop to sharpen your saw?"

---

So-- do you stop to sharpen your saw? Have you ever not stopped? What do you do?

I like to read all sorts of things, especially unrelated to fandom - non-fiction, kids books, old favorites, new stuff...

This is a weekly check-in! You do not have to check in, of course, but if you would like to comment on the last week, feel free!

If you have a deadline coming up, you can do it!
