Intro post

 Hello!

I just stumbled over this community on fandomcalendar  and I think it's a brilliant idea.

I write and post fic pretty regularly, but only the stuff that I have deadlines for (i.e. bigbangs, fests, exchanges). Anything that doesn't have someone specific depending in me to get it done gets pushed to the end of the line and usually doesn't even get started. I have been working on a sequel to one of my fics for a year because it doesn't have a firm deadline. Its finally finished but still needs a lot of editing and revision. I feel really guilty that its still not ready to post because I get questions about it all the time.

I have two main problems. One, like other people have mentioned, I have way more ideas than I will ever get to write. Second, a lot of my ideas are for fandoms/pairings/ideas that I don't think anyone else is interested in reading. But just making the list of ideas post has really gotten me energized and excited by some of the plot bunnies so maybe just reviewing it periodically will help keep that excitement and motivation.

Hopefully having a place to share and cheer on others will help keep the energy up as well, so I'm really glad I found this place:)

Welcome! There are a lot of newcomers today, and everyone seems very friendly so I think it's going to be a great community.

Don't worry if you think your fandom/pairing is unpopular. There will always be at least one grateful fan, and the more obscure the fandom, the more grateful they'll be -- I find that makes up for a lot.

Edit: I see you're contributing to fixitstory as well -- I've finished my story for that so if you need any help during the last month let me know.

I have a couple of obscure pairing/fandom fics that get a surprising (to me) number of kudos/comments. But I always seem to forget that when I'm contemplating writing something new :) Maybe I just need the reminder once in awhile:)


My Fix-it fic rough draft is done, except now I have to poke myself to edit/revise it, because I really want to work on a sequel companion piece for it:)

I just want to second alassenya's comment that there is always someone who'll be grateful for stories with unpopular/obscure pairings. They might not always pop up right away, but they're out there!

Thank you for the reminder that just because I feel like I'm alone on my shipping island, there's probably someone else who might like it. It's easy to feel all alone with some small fandoms:)

I've posted fics for small fandoms and had crickets until a year or two later when someone pops up and sings my praises for the fic/pairing. There is always someone who'll be thrilled. ^_^

I can sympathize with having problems drumming up the motivation to make works for tiny ships and fandoms. Otoh, if it isn't the 100th juggernaut coffeeshop AU you know that the world ~depends on your for it to exist. Good luck!

I like the idea that world depends on me for rare pairs. I may put that on a sticky above my desk:)
