Just a check in this week. ^_^ (Relax, if you need to.)

This is a check-in post! You do not have to check in if you don't want to and there are no requirements for what you need to check in with. This is your space, so have at!

Feel free to talk about success, frustration, current projects, nagging projects, exciting projects, and everything else going on.

If you have a deadline, you can do it! If you need a deadline, they're available.

Yay writing! Writing when you haven't in a while DOES feel good. Good luck for the weekend. :)

It's so thrilling to write again after a long dry spell. Here's hoping it continues!

Writing about 500-1000 words a day on the current project. I was hoping to get it done this month but that doesn't look likely. It's turning out to be a much longer story than I originally thought it would be.

I've been starting with a low goal bar of one drabble/vignette a day. I've been doing pretty decent so far, with a mix of original and fan fiction.

To aid my goal to be more consistent in my output, I've also entered The Prose's weekly story contest. Every Wednesday, they release a challenge prompt and, when the judges select a winner, the winner receives a cash prize (about $100-200 in US dollars).

I didn't win the last time around, but I'll be entering the new one they've posted up today. Reaching for a goal--even if you have to bribe yourself a little--is always a good thing. :)

Planned to write last weekend (mainly stuff for the FF exchange), didn't write because I was buried under snow (a good two feet-plus on the city!) and a zillion hours at work. But I did get a bit started on a hack of The Black Hack because the world needs yet more old-school D&D mechanics ha and I worked a lot on leveling dudes and getting story bits in mobile-game land.

I'm thinking of signing up for [community profile] ygobigbang the spring, which of course means weighing options now ... Might also do Space Swap this time, kind of vaguely tempted because various Gundam are chewing on my brainstem.

Hopefully I can get some writing bits attacked this weekend instead, but aaaaaah my Vidar model kit arrived ~~~~

Managed 5,400+ words in the past two days, meaning that, for once, I managed to write like I did on a regular basis all those years ago, and in a very similar fandom (Fire Emblem Heroes). *deep breath* Definitely a step in the right direction.

Thank you. :-) (If I could write at that level on a regular basis, there might be secrets to tell, but consistency is one of the hardest things for a writer to achieve.)

I'm doing okay if I look just at words so far this month: last night I ended with 30,290 words for the month of February.

What's going wrong is that I was writing a minific for a prompt on my Magpie Monday, where I accept prompts and write replies...

The bleeping thing will likely cross 10k words if I don't find a way to gut 90% of the PLOT elements which have cropped up in the 1500 words of setting up for the original KEY scene.

ACK!

Bwahahahahahahahahah.

Sorry. but the last time I posted non-fiction commentary on my blog was January 7th. The "Magpie Monday" is a request for prompts, and the "Poetry Fishbowl Linkback" is a story by someone else posted in return for signal boosts. Other than that, it's a LONG string of interconnected short stories already.

The problem-child prompt fill DID turn out quite large, but it's not the only one: the shortest fill was 1800 words and change, another 3100 and change, and getting that problem child in under 6k was MIRACULOUS. And, I do believe, it has a coherent, stable plot!

I have barely started writing today, but I am VERY excited to add... yet another short story in the string of interconnected ones!

I actually made real progress this week! A lot of it still editing and rewriting my (very) rough draft text, but that's still progress, and I can feel the shape of the story beginning to develop more firmly as I edit.

(Also I started casually writing a deeply inadvisable Mary Sue fic that will probably never see the light of day, but hey, it's words!)

I currently have two docs open and I'm flipping between the two stories. I hate doing it, but the bunnies want me to write both, so I am. The main problem with that is I don't get as much done as I would on a single story at a time.

Just finished and posted a small podfic. Hopefully tomorrow/Saturday I can finish editing the longer one I have first-drafted. But really I want to find some time to PUT SOME WORDS ON PAPER one of these days...

I'm doing okay so far. I posted 3 bingo fills and have first drafts finished on 3 others. I'm about 1.5K words behind where I'd like to be, but if I can swing another 4K word weekend I'll be caught up.

Getting the "list" together has helped. I always had the bingo cards but I'd have to go and look at each - now with checklists setup in trello, I can see which prompts I have still open all in one place. I've also made an action plan to finish up some of the old bingo cards that fall under amnesty.

Sadly I haven't learned not too sign up for more stuff:

This week I added:
1 bingo card
1 fic exchange (fandom5k)

Success: I worked a little bit on an original thing! The words are... not perfect, but they're words I can work with. Also, since Chocolate Box is over, I'll be able to use all my writing time to write personal projects. Yay! Time to work on all of the weird niche stuff that I can't give to other people. xD

Frustration: Real life is really killing my mojo. I want to bury myself under the bedsheets and stay there forever. Kind of hard to write when you're burrito'd by stress. But it'll be easier now, with no deadlines to worry about.

Finally bashed my way through a scene that I'd been stalled on in my Yuletide NYR fic! This puts me at about 65 percent done for this fic, though the remaining 35 percent contains magical combat scenes and some sort of funny denouement. My goal is to get this done by the end of February, so I hope I can crack through the next part by the weekend....

made what feels like huge amounts of progress on le monologueeee (it's like 2 paragraphs? but the whole thing is theoretically very short SO).

my evenings of just laying around and doing shitty sketches is also going pretty well? i sound facetious but i mean it.

I've been on a downswing lately, and then I've been sick the last few days on top of that, so I've not gotten much accomplished. I've fiddled with some earlier chapters on my novel because I'd decided certain aspects sucked, but I'm not fiddling too much because I'm not sure how objective my criticism is atm.

I did finally get back to writing and filled a buttload of Firefly drabble prompts today. That was nice even though I'd told myself no more fanfic for a while.

Thanks a bunch! Hugs always help. Luckily, I think I'm on the mend. I was able to do things today, anyway.

That's probably exactly what I'll do. Thanks!

I have been working on a story for two months. I have roughly 19 pages of actual scenes written, but after reviewing it, I realize it's out of order and doesn't flow. I have been stuck writing/rewriting for weeks, 4 versions and 73 cut pages of dialog/scenes, and I don't feel any closer to actually making any progress. I've sent this to a friend who helped me see where my first problem was (removing a blocking scene helped me write a new bridge scene), but I'm back to being stuck again. I have all the time in the world to write, it's quiet, I have nothing to do...and I'm so FRUSTRATED. The emotion of the character being talked to just isn't coming across, and I don't know if it's that I don't know what he should be feeling/reacting, or I'm trying to force something on him that shouldn't be there.
