So, that list you made last week? Go ahead and grab it/load it/bring it up in another window.

If it's making you want to run screaming in terror to live in an abandoned missile silo with nary a typewriter in sight, I completely understand. If it's actually not that bad, well-organized and manageable, well, that's fine too. I am, as always, a little envious of anyone falling into the latter category.

However... don't run screaming. Because it's not a scary list of things you have to do.

It's an amazing list of awesome stories you are going to write/videos you are going to make/crafts you are going to craft/etc.

Seriously, look at all the cool stuff you have planned!

If you have a list so astounding and cool that you have no idea where to start (or perhaps you want to work on all the things), take a couple of minutes and look it over.

Some of you have mentioned exchanges/fests/things-with-deadlines. While there may be something far more sparkly attempting to get your attention, stick with your deadline-shiny! I know it's hard, but I also know you can do it!

If you don't have any deadlines and have time to work on something, work on the first thing that jumps out at you. While you work on it, the rest of the list doesn't exist. You're not neglecting all those other things; they are perfectly content to wait.

This is also a weekly check-in! You do not have to check in, of course, but if you would like to comment on the last week, feel free! If you want to introduce yourself and weren't sure you wanted to do it in an individual post, feel free to use the comments. If you have any other questions or, well, anything, feel free to use the comments as well. ^_^

If you have a deadline coming up, you can do it! If you need a deadline, feel free to ask!

You may have already seen this on my journal, but I've managed to do some rewriting and editing to a really old fic. I keep telling myself it's for "practice" but really it's because I'm still attached to the story. At the time I wrote it, it was the first fic I'd written in years.

Haha, it just sort of makes me cringe reading this old fic because it's still online, but a few people did like it. After reading through some of it, I see where I've grown. I used a lot of adjectives, oh my gosh.

I've written 4 chapters since I remade my list, but the chapter outlook for this fic changed from 20ish to 30ish. Still, I'm enjoying my writing and liking what I'm doing. I can't always say that.

Struggling

Word count from Monday through tonight (Thursday, here), was 8553 words, but I'm seriously stuck on the current story.

I needed to write the full 1500 words today to make progress on the story, since the first part was supposed to start posting tomorrow.

Endlessly frustrating!

Once my midterms are over, I might actually have time to devote to writing again. Yaay?

So far, I'm not scream-running from The List, which is good. And soon I'll be finished with my most recent exchange, which is even better - there'll be more time for it.

I worked a little on one of my in-progress earlier this week, and remembered why I let it sit to begin with - it's going to take some severe reworkings in order to make it actually decent. SIIIIGH. (But at least I know how to end it! That's usually one of the hardest parts for me.)

I've done a little on two separate fics - mostly editing on one and adding actual text on the other. I need to focus on the one I'm editing, though, and start adding more text. That's the hard bit - editing is much easier.

the monologue that i actually have to give to someone is getting the most love! it's a slow, slow process though, and i feel like i'm moving at a line-by-line pace. but hey! it's something!

ideally it'll actually be rough-draft completed by next weekend.

I started one of my story ideas yesterday, but because of work only got about 858 words done. Still, I'm very pleased with the progress! :)

I picked one story and talked it over with my partner, who had some good ideas about what to do to get it going again. Haven't actually done any writing yet, though.

After making a spreadsheet that I was kinda 'meh' about, someone pointed me in the direction of trello.com -- now I have prompts/challenges and writing projects organized in a way that has me excited! --

Oh and I signed up for another bingo -- so apparently haven't learned my lesson yet :P

Thanks for sharing trello. That's a real nice way to get ideas organized.

My pleasure! It's made a big difference for me and I've only been using it a little over a week.

One important start that I made this past week was going back and starting a reread of a story, as yet incomplete, that I wrote about thirteen years ago. I have reread the whole thing several times, and every revisitation tells me ways I could have done it differently ... and can still do it differently. Completing that monstrosity is on top of my long-term do-list, but there are several other bunnies worth pursuing. Might need to hash out more prewriting to see how I feel about those ideas, now that they have had time to season.

For me, this past week has been spent mostly in daydreaming scenes for different fics, not really putting anything down in a document file or even on paper. I'm hoping that the week to come will give me a chance to try to power through something I've been stalled on, even if I end up deleting most of it.

Missed this post while I was away from keyboard...

I've knocked off one little podfic and completed the draft/compiled list of edits for the longer in-progress one. And now, of course, I'm making another little short one that was not on my original list, instead of anything that was on the list. (But it's to count toward the deadline-soon challenge, at least.)

I'm doing reasonably well at keeping up with current fic deadlines, and getting that done first.

I'm not sure why you think something that has a deadline is somehow not my project, but thanks. (And I keep exchanges down to only ever one at a time anyway.)

Well, they are things I signed up for - because I wanted excuses and inspiration to write things, and they help. I have one exchange fic (only needing editing and beta-ing now), but it was an enjoyable one anyway. And the rest is all stuff I really want to do. And why would anyone sign up for a bingo or something like that if they didn't think it would be fun and helpful, or the perfect excuse for some idfic or something?

(Sorry if I sounded negative, btw; I just don't see my sign-ups like that. This is a fun comm and thank you for it.)

I still haven't made any progress on fic writing, but I have done a couple drawings from prompts listed.
