Welcome to the second Brainstorming Post! Feel free to use this space for any brainstorming needs you may have.
A couple of guidelines for this post--
• Everyone has a different opinion on spoilers and how long they stay spoilers before becoming public knowledge (Rosebud was his sled!) - if you are concerned with spoilers in your comments, feel free to use white-text, bumper comments, or whatever method you prefer.
• Nobody is under any obligation to use any suggestions made in this post or to credit any commenter if their suggestions are used (though perhaps if a long, productive exchange occurs, a short author's note might be nice).
• If you have any concerns with any content in the comments, please feel free to PM me.
(Basically, be good to one another. Happy Brainstorming!)

Date: 2014-12-01 04:03 am (UTC)I know, the fic would be much shorter and less interesting, perhaps, but sometimes their hurt hurts me, even if I get off on H/C. Anyway, I guess that I'll just continue on my
merryangsty way, even though sometimes I'm not even sure if the conflicts are conflict-y enough. Sometimes I think of repercussions from the fallout and forget to work on the conflict itself, so that it actually makes sense instead of resembling cheap drama.That also reminds me, what if you feel like one of the characters has gone a tad too far? Sometimes conflict requires one of them lashing out, but then I worry they seem like horrible people who shouldn't be in a (future) relationship (with the other character) anyway.
I think that's it! I rambled enough for today. ^^;

Date: 2014-12-02 06:04 pm (UTC)It's bad that I'm often too stubborn to let go of an idea. It's not that I write them right away, but they keep bothering me for days until I find something I deem good enough. Studying different approaches is indeed what I should do.
Yup, in my case there's only so much I can bother my poor friends with. I'm trying to get used to brainstorm on the finer details on my own, and although it's a slow process, it's kind of interesting at the same time. Wish I had an AI that could compute different scenarios and tell me the best outcome. ^^
Good luck with your Yuletide fic!

Date: 2014-12-02 03:52 pm (UTC)Hm. I'd like to start rambling about my other WIPs, but I'm currently too absorbed with those two up there that I can't find anything that I'd need brainstorming for. ^^;

Date: 2014-12-03 09:01 pm (UTC)One thing I wonder is whether simply naming it Suicide Squad would be boring, and another whether there would be a need for a pilot if the characters already showed up on Arrow and the premise of the Squad was explained. I guess I'll have to learn more about the TV show format.
Off the top of your head, do you know any sources?

Date: 2014-12-04 08:59 pm (UTC)Sherlock/Oryx and Crake fusion
Date: 2014-12-05 07:33 pm (UTC)Tumblr's Let's Write Sherlock has extended the deadline of their latest Crossover/Fusion challenge for another month. I'm not sure I can write a Margaret Atwood-level story in a month, but her storytelling in Oryx and Crake is fragmentary and weaves a host of backstory scenes from throughout the protag's life in with the current "action".
Right now, I don't think I'll want to mirror the structure in that the present is that post-pandemic world.
Anyway, characters:
I'll want an interest triangle between Victor Trevor, Irene and Sherlock, but I have yet to decide the exact constellation of their relationships to each other. I'm still very much at the beginning, and would need some innput on Sherlock's place in this world. The following are some rudimentary basics that are liable to change.
Victor Trevor: Roughly fills the shoes of Snowman the Jimmy. He's not a numbers person, which are highly prized in this world. He's more of the artistic type. Has studied to become a graphic designer at a not-so-good arts college, spent some time doing ads, and is now working or worked (depending on when my story will take place) as a costume designer who created some of the animal/bird-style bodysuits they use at Scales and Tails, which I think was a strip club in the books. (Will need another re-read.) There he met Irene and became intruiged by her.
Irene Adler: Roughly corresponds to Oryx. She's a performer at Scales and Tails (or somewhere original) with a myssterious past.
Sherlock Holmes: Roughly Crake's role. Genius numbers person.
Like in the books, I want them to all come together somehow/know each other from somwhere. The first ideas that came to mind:
* In the books, Crake entertained (potential) customers at bars like Scales and Tails, depending on the customers' tastes. This could be how Sherlock and Irene know each other, and how Irene introduces Victor to Sherlock.
* Victor and Sherlock meet at Uni, as in the Holmes canon. Sherlock of course could have gone to any of the more prestigious colleges, but he was bored with all the stiffness in those schools and wanted to have something more artistic, and he liked the drama classes.
How I'm gonna reconcile this with Sherlock's BA in Chemistry, idk. As I said, these ideas are liable to change. I'll probably be thinking about how to tweak ideas to a) fit in more characters from the Sherlock canon, and b) find a compromise between both universes.
I don't think I've ever written a fusion before (unless you count Japanese history and Gintama, but that's basically Gintama canon anyway, I just expanded on it), so this is both exciting and terrifying. I hope once I'm clearer on the characters and where they are on life, their goals will manifest and some sort of story will emerge.
