Welcome to your weekly check-in post! This is where you can report your progress, vent your frustrations, ask for prompts or a deadline, or use how you need to.

Totally optional participation challenge: the WHAM line. The WHAM line is a single sentence, usually dialogue, that delivers a plot twist and changes everything. Without context or explanation, share the WHAM line from your current WIP or latest project.

check in and WHAM!

First, the WHAM! moment. (I am very proud of this.)

“No,” Cash offered, dishing up his slowest, most arrogant grin. “I'm a supervillain. You're the bully. Think it over."

Writing for the month of July started with a disappointment: I missed my target of 1400 words per day. However, I'm noodling along with 9,100 words for the month to date, which feels like an accomplishment.

What I'd like are suggestions for ways to hammer out TWO stories simultaneously, which do not connect, or may not even share the same universe, because I have to, HAVE TO, build up a ready supply to post for about two weeks--around 30K words total-- while still doing my regular 30k words. It's not the time, it's the mental shifting gears between tones, physics, characters, et alia.

At this point, I'm yelling 'Mayday!'

On the two stories front:

I'm having to do that myself at the moment. What I do is usually regiment when I write each story - an hour on one, then an hour on the other, with about a 15-30 minute break between the two to get in the mental headspace I need to be for each one. I'll let the muses choose which one to work on first, because they're good at that, but once that hour is done I stop. Sometimes it's hard to do, if I'm in the middle of a scene I really need to finish (and I'll usually get it done, because that means I'm on a roll) but then I set that one aside, take my break, and get started on the next one.

Good luck! *gets out the cheerleader's pompoms*

If you have stronger bunnies for one fandom I'd try and race to the end of a draft with that one and then move to the other if you have time. Otherwise, I'd suggest the same as milady, but with a bigger gap say one day do fandom x then the next z or even longer say a couple of days to a week on one then swap to the other.

I'm finally working on my big bang...hurray! Of course, that's when bunnies decided to drop a really big plot point in the second story I'm working on into my brain. But, I was good, and I've stuck to the system I've worked out in order to get both done.

WHAM moment --

“It’s me,” Ianto rasped, voice weak and harsh in his ears.

I finished one part of an exchange gift! It came out okay, I think! Instead of four pieces, I'm aiming for it to be a three-piece project. Going to work on the second part today and see what happens!

Also, the three-four piece project I was considering has turned into two three-four piece projects that I'm definitely wanting to do, whoops! With two-three week margins for each, I'm sure I can get that done!

Claimed a couple of fics to create art for in a big bang, although coupled with another bang I'm participating in, they're all due on the same day in August. Gonna try my best to get all these projects knocked out before their due dates so I'm not scrambling at the last second to do three+ pieces, haha. C':

I finished almost everything I planed for in June (still need to fill my robot apoalypse prompt) , but I once again find it very hard to write anything. It feels like pulling teeth to work on my two wip and I don't want to start anything new.

I'm writing fic for the first time in ages! Unfortunately it's like pulling hen's teeth but I'm getting words down. So painful. My plan is to get to the end of the story, type up and then edit until good. I also have a ficlet to polish up for a bingo that's been lying round but I guess I'll do that when I've finished the longer fic.

I know some people write a couple of (quality) fics a year, but I'm worried if I don't force myself write, I'll lose the ability to write anything decent for an exchange.

Well, I was making slow but steady progress on my Big Bang fic...and then I signed up to do a last minute pinch hit for a different challenge. Oops. (Happily, the last-minute-ness means there's only so much writing time I can spend on the new project. It's about half written as of yesterday.)

The resurrected old project I mentioned last time is rolling through prewriting and should be ready for a real chapter before too long.

Unfortunately, that means I do not yet have a WHAM! line to share.
