This is a check-in post! You do not have to check in if you don't want to and there are no requirements for what you need to check in with. This is your space, so have at!

Feel free to talk about success, frustration, current projects, nagging projects, exciting projects, and everything else going on.

If you have a deadline, you can do it! If you need a deadline, they're available.

Decided to do four (possibly five, if I can come up with an idea) related art pieces for a H/C bingo prompt; kind of ambitious, for me, as I've never taken on a project this big! The idea refuses to leave me, though, ahah.
I have each piece planned out, for the most part, and I saved a bunch of references earlier, and am hoping to get at least one finished by tonight!

I finished a chapter of my ongoing monster fic. I'm glad I decided not to post any of it until it's done and edited because the progress on it has really slowed down.

Instead of working on WIPs last night I wrote a few drabbles. That was fun!

I keep worrying about an exchange fic I have due but it's not due for another 3 months so really I have time and need to chill a little.

Well done on the monster fic chapter! I think it makes sense to cut back on the pressure level - sometimes knowing that people are waiting makes everything harder.

I am taking this opportunity to rant a bit.

There's this one character. Now, I recognize the fact that she's a bit of a sociopath. That's one of her most endearing characteristics. And I adore writing her.

She's with her son and his husband, and they are about to question this crazy woman who's done a lot of questionable things. And my friendly sociopathic character has decided to turn into a complete and utter psychopath.

Now, I understand that this villain is a very bad person. I also understand that she was responsible for kidnapping, torturing, and nearly killing my usually happy sociopath's only child. I expected a bit of Mama Bear from her when facing the craziness that hurt her son.

But not this. She is bound and determined to be even crazier than the villain is. I'm writing her, and she's taking over and making threats and pulling hidden weapons and I have no idea where all this is coming from.

I am supposed to be the one in control. I am The Writer. This is my story and my rules.

Yeah, right.

So I'm trying to get her back under control and to keep her from murdering my villain in what amounts to cold blood. In front of her son and son-in-law. It's not working.

I am at the mercy of my once-happy sociopath.

Okay, rant over. That actually felt good. Not that it helped with my problem any. I'm probably going to let her run and see what comes out of it.

All sympathies for that experience -- I'm familiar with it, too! Sounds like there's a lot of good reason for the rage, but it almost stops being fun to write once it gets that intense. And it feels like the more you try to pull them back, the angrier and less rational they become and the harder it is to keep them under some semblance of in-character control.

(I can recall a similar instance during an online RP confrontation with a very good friend, where both of us were flailing over email after every tag/update between our characters because they simply would not calm down, and finally we had to say to each other, 'We need to start de-escalating this somehow because on a scale from 1 to outright homicide, I think we are literally two comments away from X straight up snapping Y's neck.' Thankfully, it worked.)

I hope you can let your sociopath do her thing without it ending up in the nuclear option.

I was able to flesh out some of the dialogue in a scene from a crack crossover I'm working on! Mostly, I needed to figure out what one of the characters was doing during the conversation -- he's only half-listening to it, and is bored and tired of the topic being discussed (think the feeling of being at the office at the end of a very long day when all you want to do is go home), so I played around with some body language that I think works out. So maybe I can write a little bit more on it this week.

In the meantime, though, I'm trying not to be hijacked by another story idea. Thankfully, this one actually will involve a bit of research to get it right -- it deals with acute hospital care in a country I don't live in and have never visited -- so I might be able to put it off for now until I finish one of the other WIPs on my plate.

Hooray for dialogue! I know what you mean about having to figure out what a character is doing. I've started trying to be more explicit about writing down motivation for each character as opposed to just letting it flow out organically. Sometimes I end up changing it as I go along, but at least I have something to work with.

Too many WIPs, too little time...

Or, more accurately, too little focus /o\ I did manage a few haiku on International Haiku Poetry Day, and a double drabble today, so at least I can say there was some writing done this week.

Really, though—WIPs. Collecting dust. Plotbunnies, good; dust(yplot)bunnies, bad. Back to the writing cave I go.

I...May have‚Äč signed up for an exchange, even though my plan was to just concentrate on the projects I've already got on the front burner...

Yeah, I'm hoping that the offers I made will restrict the universe of requests to ideas I don't have to think *too* hard about. Last time I did this exchange, I ended up writing a story that I'm proud of, but took *forever*. :)

I finished the rough draft of my big bang!! It's still pretty rough in places (and missing the second half of chapter 7), but it was done enough by the deadline and now I have a month or so to polish it while the artist does their thing. I'm so pleased! And when I put all the chapters in together I realized that it's 34,000 words, which, wow.

I've decided to take a week away from it entirely and work on other things (like... my next big bang... ahahaha) so that should be soothing.

Yes! And... write the second half of chapter 7, ugh. But editing is going well so far!

My serial is currently 18 (posted chapters). I went through my outline to figure out the pacing, and realized this whole thing is going to be about forty chapters.

I started this story in 2015. It has consumed my life.

(Now replying in the correct thread. Apparently it's going to be that kind of day.)

Thanks :). I've had the bare bones in place since the first draft, and I don't think I've written this complicated and plotty for years.

I have done no writing at all this week. Though I did get a new worldbuilding bunny for a totally different series, which is definitely what i needed.

I'm slowly making progress on my fantasy gardener/sentient flower fic, but I feel that once I've hit my campnano goal, I lose some of my discipline. I also have a gen prompt bingo card and an apocalypse-themed bingo card to write for, but I haven't come up with any ideas yet.

Thanks for your offer!

As I'm leaving for a 3-day camp, I will probably take a break in writing until I return, and I'll see how to get back into writing after that.
