kalloway: (Plotbunny Warning)
[personal profile] kalloway posting in [community profile] onedeadplotbunny
Make a list.

Of every fic/art/icon/whatever-bunny you have that you would like to write/create sometime in the foreseeable future. This includes bingo cards, big bangs, comment fics, exchanges, random plotbunnies, sequels, etc. This can also include other projects; I know people have added in things like knitting, semester projects, etc.

Detail it if you want to. You can be as vague as you like. No one ever has to see your list but you and if you know what 'Cabbage No. 2' means, that's good enough.

Do it either in your own journal or in a paper notebook or in the comments or whatever. In the past, I've used one of those fancy blank notebooks I bought with high hopes and then found too intimidating to write in. They're really good at holding lists. Quite a few people also use spreadsheets and GoogleDocs.

You can organize however you'd like - ficlets together, epics together, or by fandom, or by what they're for or when they're due... Or don't organize at all. But one list, in one place.

If a single listing for Super Mega-Epic Fic feels a little intimidating, it's fine to break complicated stuff down by chapter or even by section. Super Mega-Epic Fic, Chapter 3 is easier for me to think about, even if it means immediately adding Super Mega-Epic Fic, Chapter 4...

Take your time. Look through old notebooks, textfiles, e-mail, journal entries, and that dusty back-corner of your brain... Round up everything.

And hang onto that list. You'll need it.

[For everyone rolling along from last year, this is also a check-in post if you want it to be!]

http://green.dreamwidth.org/319985.html updated my bunny list. I was able to take two things off it from when I updated it in September, two fics I finished and posted. \o/

Egads!

I >Do make lists, and I still forget to follow up on serious bunnies, not just "Wouldn't it be fun if character A and B met?" with no plot idea at the time.

It's a terrifying hash of little bitty files on my computer, each beginning with the word "Idea_" and I have no clue HOW to organize them, or if I should have a "bunny pen" folder and shove them all in so they can continue to breed in peace!

Your idea of sorting by fandom is discouraging, because I'm still finding bunnies everywhere on my hard drive. Any suggestions for that part? I need to open files to make the list, after all.

I have SO MANY fic ideas that I thought my list would be much longer. However, there's definitely a difference between the 32934349034 vague ideas I have and the ideasI actually want to write, so making a list was super helpful in differentiating between them.

This kind of list idea, right when I'm trying to get organized, is perfect! Mine is about half writing, half other stuff.

WIP list here, following a Google Docs roundup. I can see the end in sight for at least one of these fics (the Yuletide NYR), thankfully.

(Still angry about the Hetalia fics, though -- I have three really solid WIPs that I simply haven't been able to bring myself to open since June 2016.)

Two of the three Hetalia fics are historical ones that actually don't have too much to do with current events, but I'm too annoyed at the actual countries themselves to write them without extreme prejudice and character assassination. ^^;; So chances are, the zombie apocalypse one might actually be written out of spite.

I whittled my list down pretty far, but it's kind of impressive how long some of the things have been on there.

I finally started an excel spreadsheet for this late last year - and yes, you really need to know what Cabbage No2 means :P I've started to leave better notes/dialogue snippets in another column for clarity.
I use media type/few words about the idea/fandom (or original work)/notes. Just enough detail to be useful, not so much that it's overwhelming to consider filling in.

I was really reluctant last year but I decide to give it a go and it took ages the first time. But it was worth doing. The nice thing was that some of the items I came across I had already completed and they were moved to the completed sheet :)
A couple of things got moved to the permanent hiatus sheet. But that's okay, I still have a record of them in case I change my mind.

It does need updating again with all my recent ideas. I think I might try adding in another if/where I've stored any documents pertaining to it as well, because sometimes I have a word doc or text file or screencap that's got info I might need if I only knew where I'd left it!

Just joining this comm...

I'm chronically buried under way too many WIPs and have been having a long low-writing-energy period, which I'd really like to get out of.

Triaged list of my doom here (friends-locked). :)

My list is at the end of this post.

I tend to forget my lists... maybe if it's in my journal* I'll remember it better.

Hopefully I'll be able to move some of this nonsense out of my wip folder. It's getting cluttered in there.

OMG - I never realized how much *stuff* had accumulated. I opted for the Google Sheets option -- I have separate tabs for each type (bingo, wip, future fic ...) but I also have a front page summary so I can see how badly I need an intervention! Of course, I went right out and signed up for hc_bingo's amnesty round, but as long as I don't join any new bingo comms right? ;-P

Ha! I just bought a set of very small notebooks that I can stow in my bag for easy access (I don't do well using my phone for on the fly ideas). I have a couple of pages of ideas I want to incorporate into a fic I started a while ago but really haven't worked on even though it is constantly at the front of my mind. Hope this will help get it going.

Also have a page dedicated to any art idea or prompts I see.

When I wrote the list (http://paranoidangel.dreamwidth.org/210195.html) I found I have more WIPs than I thought. I am hoping this comm will help me finish some of them this year.

this was really fun to do! i organized it by wips vs "things i'd like to tackle someday."

it's up on my journal, but flocked, so it...feels a little pointless to link it here? regardless, i'm excited i did it!

looking back, i feel like i should have made a third list called "other things that i also have to do in life that might also take up time" so i could realistically organize my days. maybe i'll do that tomorrow!

Pardon me, I did not think to post here after joining up. ^_^; But I keep a paper list in the form of a prewriting binder where I keep almost all of the half-formed ideas that never became proper stories, or that never became complete stories.
